The "ArkLaTex"

What is the "Ark-La-Tex?"

The Ark-La-Tex refers to Southwest Arkansas (Ark), Northwest, Louisiana (La) and Northeast Texas (Tex). This is the region served by the Texarkana Museums System. Texarkana is located on the border between Arkansas and Texas and about 70 miles from the Louisiana border.

What is "Texarkana?"

The name "Texarkana" was derived in a similar manner to the above. "Tex" for Texas, "Ark" for Arkansas, and "Ana" for Louisiana. There are many stories told as to the first use of the name, but all agree on this combination as the formula. Texarkana is actually two cities in two states: Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas.
